This event is part of the HiRSE Seminar Series, a series of online talks on topics relevant to research software engineering and research software engineers.
Abstract
Generative AI is transforming Research Software Engineering, but it also introduces critical challenges for scientific integrity, reproducibility, and software sustainability. As open science policies and regulations like the EU AI Act evolve, transparently tracking the provenance of AI-generated code is shifting from a best practice to a strict requirement. This talk will discuss AI transparency in research workflows using the AI Declaration Format, a lightweight, machine-readable standard designed to document AI involvement directly within a codebase.
The seminar will also discuss AI agent skills for Research Software Engineering.
