We are researchers from the UX team in the Scientific Data Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). We are investigating what scientists and engineers need from existing and potential AI tools for their research work. If you use AI tools or methods to facilitate your own or others’ research, you are invited to participate in an hour-long interview via video call to share your experience and perspective.
During the interview we would discuss topics like your AI use across the research lifecycle, opportunities you envision for future use of AI, and how you may use AI to interact with data and compute facility resources. Interviews will be recorded and transcribed, but the recordings and transcripts would only be accessible to the research team for note-taking purposes. Any quotes or other information from your interview would be shared anonymously so that your participation remains confidential and you can speak honestly. Your participation is voluntary and not required.
Additional information about this study is available at https://go.lbl.gov/AIStudyInfo2026. To sign up or ask questions, please email Hannah Cohoon or Drew Paine (hcohoon@lbl.gov, pained@lbl.gov).
